Polydioxanone (PDO) is a strong, dissolvable material that can lift your skin and promote collagen production from within. With a PDO thread lift by Shaista Quddusi, MD, Irfan Ansari, MD, and the rest of the team at Rejuvenate Skin & Wellness Center in Federal Way, Washington, you can minimize wrinkles and sagging skin like jowls. What are PDO threads?

Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are durable, but dissolvable, strands that the Rejuvenate Skin & Wellness Center team places beneath your skin and uses to lift drooping or sagging features. Features like these appear with age, and although they won’t harm you, they make you appear older. You can avoid plastic surgery by correcting them with a PDO thread lift.

During a minimally invasive PDO thread lift at Rejuvenate Skin & Wellness Center, the team anesthetizes your skin before making small incisions near your hairline. Through these incisions, they insert the Sapphire PDO threads using a cannula. The PDO threads are made in such a way to allow them to grip the tissue and stay in place as the team pulls them upward.

The team uses 1-15 threads depending on the amount of lifting you want to achieve. They trim the extra thread and massage your skin so the threads won’t leave dimpling. Polydioxanone dissolves within your skin on its own over time, but your own collagen builds around the threads before this happens.

Sapphire Diamond Lift

This type of lift helps enhance the overall shape of the face. Various barbed threads are used to help contour the jawline and cheek areas. For optimal results, your provider may also recommend other injectables to help maximize the contour and reverse the signs of aging.

Sapphire Smooth

This lift help smooth and plump sagging skin. This procedure uses non-barbed threads to help fill in hollow areas and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Screw threads can be used to help reduce the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles around the forehead and mouth.

You can also place PDO threads in your neck and other areas where hyaluronic acid dermal fillers aren’t always safe to use. PDO threads are also used for body contouring, to help achieve your aesthetic goals.

What are the results of a PDO thread lift?

A PDO thread lift elevates and repositions your skin and tissues to minimize some of the effects of aging and gravity. The results of your PDO thread lift might include reductions in age-related features like:

  • Jowls
  • Turkey neck
  • Other sagging skin
  • Large wrinkles
  • Fine lines

Though the results of a PDO thread lift are significant and noticeable, they aren’t quite as drastic as the results from a surgical facelift. However, many people agree that the results of a PDO thread lift are more natural-looking because of the stimulation of natural collagen to maintain them.

How long do the results of a PDO thread lift last?

For about six months after your initial procedure, your skin builds collagen and elastin around the PDO threads. Collagen and elastin are plentiful building-block proteins within your skin that help it maintain its structure.

In total, the results of a PDO thread lift last for 12-18 months. The results eventually diminish because your skin continues to age naturally, breaking down the collagen and elastin that once kept it firm and tight.

To get the most out of your PDO thread lift, you should avoid washing or rubbing your face vigorously for at least one week after you leave the office. There is very little risk of scarring, bruising, bleeding, and other complications.
