Acne protocols;
Call for a virtual or in office consult. We do bill medical insurance for clients with Medical Insurance. No insurance, no worries, we have a very reasonable payment plan for un-insured clients. I have a passion treating acne as myself, and my daughter suffered from severe acne. In fact my daughter is the main reason I started my aesthetic practice, with acne being the first service we offered at our clinic. Over the last 3 years I have treated multiple clients with acne. Being an Endocrinologist I am also able to help girls with hormonal disarray that is sometimes the underlying reason for resistant acne.
Diet:
I reccomend low Carb Diet. Regular exercise.
We provide diet sheets as examples of Low Carbohydrate diet.
Avoid white bread, white pasta, white Rice, sugar and dairy.
A good substitute for dairy is almond or coconut milk.
More vegetables and some fruits are essential components of a healthy diet.
Important tips:
P acne is the main bacterial species active in acne lesions. This bacteria is resistent to most prescribed antibiotics.
Avoid long term oral antibiotics as this makes acne more resistent to available antibiotics.
NO ONE TREATMENT CAN CLEAR ALL ACNE.
IT TAKES 2 MONTHS TO SEE EFFECTS OF WHAT YOU DO NOW!
Often severe acne requires multiple treatments initially but maintainance requires less oral and topical treatments.
Acne is often multifactorial. Quite heterogenous in different clients that we see. No one treatment regimen is good for every individual.
We tailor the regimen based on your skin type, other hormonal players in your body, and your life style.
Good cleansing & exfoliation regimen, followed by toning skin.
Benzoyl Peroxide; used daily for red lesions topical use prevents resistance to antibiotics. Also a great topical agent to prevent future acne lesions.
It can dry up your skin, this requires a moisturizer that does not block pores which in turn can make your skin more prone to future breakouts.
Salicylic Acid: used 2-4% available as a toner from Obagi. Several over the counter formulations also available. This product is used on white acne lesions, raised lesions without any redness. Also a great topical product to prevent future breakouts.
Topical prescription antibiotics can be used periodically for pustular lesions.
Azelaic ACID: topical product helps reduce pigmentation and redness seen with acne. It has a bleaching effect, reduces inflammation, reduces Rosacea.
Chemical Peels; applied by health care professionals usually done once a month is a cheaper way to clear acne with home management. The cost of a monthly chemical peel is a lot cheaper than monthly Laser Treatments.
Topical Retinoids: essential components of prevention and treatment of acne. I do not prescribe Acutane. I strongly recommend use of topical Tretinoin for most of my clients thathave acne but NOT FOR SENSITIVE SKIN CLIENTS.
We start slow and gradually increase the use of topical retinoids at bedtime.
DO NOT USE RETINOIDS(TOPICAL) IN AM.These products make you more photosensitive, always use sun block 30 and up in AM.
SPF SPF SPF! imp to prevent pigmentation and long term sun damage.
